The enterprise opportunity of Big Data: Closing the "clue gap"
This is very good article that I have read about big data so far ,especially with the depiction below. I have been receiving several questions from prospects, customers who know that I have been in BI arena years.
As far as I am concerned, Big Data concept is still new in Turkish market and there is no special approach or structured way, our market seems to choose more secure way working with global vendors like SAP, Oracle, IBM etc.. From my perspectives, although these vendors (I work for one of them) provide some responses , real big data guys are the new emerging ones or niche ones, because they have started from strach and did not care our what the others suffer from. At least, they do not have anytihng worry about like customer case, support etc. On the other hand, big guys have potentials, bases, money to invest on..:) I will try to write about it later on but my current perspection and advice ofor big data is hybrid approach based on absultely unique needs. (I am really layz to write blog post :) )
First of all, companies should determine the real value of big data for their core business, then care about technology. Technolgoy works, will always work, but some of them will satisfy right way, some will not...but technology will never help you to determine your needs... everyday new start-up with very interesting technology comes to the market. really existing but my request to the market is You define your needs clearly , do not leave it to the vendors, which will only make you just confused for your roadmap.

BI definition without technical terminalogy ?
As one friend has told me in the past, Business Intelligence is like a football in Turkey. Everybody has something to say, comment or complain about .:). Even people like us who have spend in this arena more than ten years are ignored are . I personally say " I do not know BI " and I learn BI everyday from the beginning.
This is cool video to explain customization od BI depending on user-needs..cheers

Enterprise Listening Platforms
Sadly, I have been researching this arena more than 4 years actively. Since we are in Turkey and we need strong support Turkish, none of these vendors support Turkish classifcation, taxonomy, entities etc..Using Social Media APIs from several vendors and coming up data analysis are not problem at all, the real value for marketers or brand managers is end-end platform in Turkish.
Even yesterday , I have had webex with one of the raising Text-analysis company in US and Europe who claims having Turkish support. However after n hour, you realize that it is just Turkish encoding support, which is nice too but again End to End support !:). I personally really like visible Technologies very much and always says" I wish it could support Turkish" :) you can download new Forrester Report from the link.

BI is still hot -2012
I have been in BI more than 10 years and in fact it was always in Top-3. It is changing, transforming, adding new concepts blah blah but BI is still hot. You know what it will be always hot. What BI means has become the meaning of business or management way of information technology. If it is not hot , it means you do not care your business.. :) anyway good figures to mention in your ppt.

What to consider for Datawarehouse Solution
As always I like IBM whitepapers, blogs and similar documents as opposed to I have not closely experienced their knowledge presentation in our local market. I believe that it is related to our market specıfıcally. Anyhow I really like this simple article and its approach to explain what to expect from DWH. I will definetely use it in my presentation..enjoy it .rgs..

Gartner MQ DWH 2012
Well, Gartner DWH MQ 2012 has been announced. My style for blogging is not to comment on everything since it is so hard to write everything "I know-I saw-I heard" .:) People many times say different as they think or act totally different. I strongly believe that current Information World has changed and will be rapidly continuining to change. This different type of MQs must be re-thought constantly. When many people including analyts firm talk about appliance,Hadoop etc DWH world cannot be evoluated seperatedly because it gives wrong result to end users. I fully understand the firms to come up this kind of reports and I personally talked to them many times and listened how hard job they have...but at the end of the day I believe that perspectives must be changed or lets say re-shaped' !!!! :) IM world is being managed by not more than 5-7 big guys so that it is not fair to judge them in the same basket with diffent expectation. example for perspectives ? agility, faster action, integration...I know that these are placed in the reports but lets be honest many people do not even know how to read this kind of reports. One simple sentence in the report says very important fact but who can realize ?...Anyhow I am doing blah blah...

Future of BI trends
Well, attached infographic is cool depiction of existing BI adoption by IT and Business. It is sad that IT still leads BI projects despite the fact that we have been keep pushing the message “ BI is for business”. Nevertheless, we also see more and more business sponsorships. Additonally, dashboard usage will be reaching almost 91 % in a year, in addition to mobile usage’s growth from 9% to 41%.
Thanks to Domo for picture. Cheers, http://www.domo.com/what-we-do/additional-resources/7/109#videos-and-infographics

In Memory -HANA / Sybase IQ
Hi there,
It was not miracle that this following picture will be the new IM strategy of SAP. It is clear that HANA will bring additional accelaration to SAP family in competition with speed7performance as well as new ability to extent existing products to other communities or needs(CEP ?). As soon as SAP acquired Sybase, I personally guessed that IQ might be taking an important role in roadmap. Although nobody clearly talks about details, I strong believe that IQ will stay as archiving mechanism of SAP. Additionally I again think that IQ might also be another quick win or alternative for DWH . Some people think that this is a competitor HANA. In fact, not at all. It totally depends on your need and what you are trying to achieve in what BUDGET, TIME SCALE, RESOURCE etc.. IQ is the father coloumn oriented DWH DB’s and the leader. Of course Sybase is not only IQ but nowdays I am being asked for this issue often, just wanted to touch it. Having two options is not unclear vision;on the contrary, having an mandatory one option is problem. Doubtless, I am not talking about many the same technologies from the same vendor, which is so confusing for customers! Anyhow, I will have more strategy information at FKOM Kick Off SAP in Milano.

Search in BI
I believe that we must distinguish the vendors due to their product portfolio. There is a fact that there are main vendors that provide end to end. You know that they will be always with you, despite their illogical pricing policies(sometimesJ). There are also small but niche vendors that offer something good but with several missing points.
I like the depiction of BI Framework by W. Eckerson. It is clear that search has become so key for sometime but technology is still not %100 capable of what users require. When you include world-languages(NLP), there are still many languages are ignored. However, search is the key now and all mature BI vendors do something about it.
I advise you to look at framework and think about your company where you are and where you will be at in couple years? J
Commenting on framework takes hours:(J

Mobility and Business Intelligence
Business Intelligence has obtained another perspective or lets say another usage era has been opened. It is good depiction of how mobile affects BI or vice-versa ; how BI is penetrated or extended with BI J

Consumeration of BI
Yes, BI market has been talking about consumeration BI for sometime. However, I have decided to say that this is a just buzz word. Why? Because each consumeration brings another new paradigma in BI so that this game will never end, it will only go under transformation. What I find very interesting is that people talk about data exploration is like a new term or user requirement in BI? OLAP Technology was miracle long time ago in BI arena, because it used to give multi dimentional looking of data with high level graphics. Then, it was enough for business users while data volume and visualization go up. There is no question mark that there will always new players in the market with niche innovation or niche usage. Thus, this will not change fundamental need of Business Intelligence technology. I have personally not seen any new vendors who provide end to end solution. Instead, they just provide something new while ignoring fundatementals.Anyhow, this is cool research from Domo. Thanks to them. cheers

Would you like to know future?
Well, Let me tell you folks Recorded Future will be the key players soon in intelligence arena. İt does provide combination of search and future prediction. Person behind the company also comes from business intelligence arena. After they sold spotfire which was dealing with structure data, recorded future now deals with unstructure data. İ had a nice Skype conversation with business development lead Antonia. She gave details information about company direction and technology behind it . Not to mention the fact that RF is used mainly government agengies , financial groups and anyone interested in search based intelligence technology. Unfortunately, main technology works with English now and they work on Chinesee followed by some arabic languages. Although i need to wait sometime for Turkish, i will keep my eye on them closely and advise to the market that is satisfied to use in English,
Really like the idea for business usage or whatever you expect from it competition, awareness, reputation, markey knowledge etc..
